Available for individuals, the publishing industry, small businesses and corporations.
Brian Cook started life in publishing in 1969. He came to it as a salesperson, and has worked for Australian and international publishers in all areas of publishing, from sales and marketing to managing and directing editorial units in adult and children's fiction and non-fiction lists, and buying and selling rights around the world.
Brian understands the commercial world of corporate and small business publishing and the cooperative roles played by various parties. He understands the nature of intellectual property, the development and placement of that property into a commercial context and the pressures and restrictions placed on all parties involved.
As a publishing consultant Brian has acted for corporations and organisations looking for an insight into publishing or finding their way through the maze of publishing. He has been instrumental in guiding industry, commerce and government to successful publishing initiatives or partnerships.

Writers have access to Brian on a consultancy basis (hourly rate to be agreed) to talk through projects.
Brian is well known throughout the industry, and is happy to talk with you about your publishing goals and objectives.
Brian Cook is the proprietor of The Manuscript Appraisal Agency and has been in the publishing business since 1969. He is also a Literary Agent representing writers of all genres.
Brian Cook
Employing Brian to mentor me was money well spent as it gave me a chance to sit down with
someone and talk constructively about what was wrong with the book and what was right with
it. Brian gave me some writing exercises to do before our meeting and after doing those
exercises I felt I was streets ahead with my story even before we got together to talk about
it. I came away from our meeting with a firm idea of how I wanted the story to go and the
background work I needed to do to help develop the characters and story line. Thanks Brian.
